Schizophrenia
is a complex brain disorder characterized by delusions,
hallucinations, disturbances in thinking and withdrawal from social
activity. It can affect a person's ability to discern what is
real and
what is not. Schizophrenia is treatable but not curable at
this time.
To improve the quality of life for those
affected by schizophrenia and
psychosis through education, support programs, public policy and
research.

provincial arm of Schizophrenia Society of Canada (SSC)
- A
non-profit, community based organization formed and incorporated in 1996
- Consists
of concerned citizens and family members working for the goals of the
Schizophrenia Society
- SSNB has support chapters in
many locations in the province of New Brunswick
Recovery is possible through
enhanced research, timely and adequate medical treatment and
management, community supports, psychosocial rehabilitation and
personal empowerment.
To give people affected by
schizophrenia and psychosis a reason to hope and the means to cope.

SSNB has a new Canadian family
education course, Strengthening
Families Together, that is designed for family members and
friends of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.
Topics: facts about mental illness, new medications and
treatment, and how others cope and survive. Call or e-mail
your local chapter or SSNB office for information or to register for
the next available session in your area.
